This is a baker's handcart dating from the late nineteenth/early twentieth century. It was used by Maskells' bakery, a family run business located on Victoria Road in Cambridge. They hand delivered freshly baked bread right up until the 1980s,until they turned to delivery by van to stores, colleges, factories and offices. The handcart reminds us of the days before supermarkets and large bread making facteries existed when bread would be delivered straight to the door from a local supplier.
