These were issued to everyone who served in the Falklands. The recipient served on HMS Plymouth as an able seaman in radar operations.

The medal is unusual amongst UK awards for the rosette worn on the ribbon. This was used to indicate 1 day's service (or one operational sortie) entering the area between 35° and 60° south, the qualifying period for the medal otherwise being 30 days' service between 2 April and 14 June 1982 in a much larger area. Normally, British medals use clasps (bars) to indicate specific service over and above that which qualifies for the medal itself.
