Grandmother's diamond ring

The platinum and diamond ring belonged to my husband's grandmother, Lily Friedlander. Her husband Willie owned a jewelry shop in Berlin, and we believe he made it for her. It has no hall marks, perhaps becasue it was made as a family gift. Willie had fought in the German army during the first world war, and according to his daughter was a 'proper German'. But as he was Jewish his business was attacked by the Nazis and his family were threatened. Their daughters Dorli and Gerda escaped separately to London, with the help of distant relations. Gerda, who was only 14, came on the Kindertransport. Willie and Lily were able to join them in August of 1939. This beautiful ring is one of the few things they were able to bring with them.
