My father was a British Marine during the second world war, he travelled to Japan on the HMS Anson, after peace had broken out. On the 17th May 1946 he went with a group of Marines from the town of Kure to Hiroshima. Whilst there he picked up this statue from the debris, the blast from the nuclear bomb had melted a bottle to it, which he broke off, this has been in my family ever since. MW
