Pithoo

Objects from this contributor

These pithoi shows that the Minoans were conscious of the effects of storing food for a large community. Products such as wheat, honey, and olive oil were stored here, as the earthen exterior kept them cool, therefore, preserving their life. The narrower opening also suggests that the Minoans had an understanding of technology advanced enough to know that objects with narrower openings let in/out less heat. The size of the pithoi also show that the Minoan civilization at Knossos was relatively large.
