Silver Snuffbox from Siege of Lucknow

My husband's great uncle, Lt. Nowell Salmon RN, was involved in bringing
naval guns to the relief of Lucknow. En route, they were attacked from a
mosque which prevented them from proceeding. Lt. Salmon climbed a tree &
directed the gunfire until the attacking force was quelled. He was exposed
to continuous fire and was awarded the Victoria Cross for his bravery.
After the battle, he acquired the snuffbox from a dead Sepoy. Inside is
a note saying "snuffbox taken at the relief of Lucknow. Nowell Salmon
killed the man". Later, Nowell Salmon became Admiral of the Fleet and
was knighted. His Victoria Cross was sold last August & fetched £190,000.
