Sketch modelling
sketch modellingThe concept of using quick, low-cost modelling techniques to create simple 3D physical models. is the concept of using quick, low-cost modelling techniques to create simple 3D physical models that allow designers to better visualise their idea than they could do by sketching on paper. A sketch model is in contrast to a presentation modelA聽scale representation of聽a聽final聽design聽idea., which is normally a scale representation of the final idea that is produced to a higher degree of accuracy and quality. Neither of these should be confused with a prototype, which is a functional model or product that can be tested in use.
For example, a product designer trying to design new kitchen utensils may use low-density styrofoam to quickly model a handle that the designer can hold to gain a physical understanding of how the form feels and performs. From this the design can then be improved to better fit the user鈥檚 hand.
