Dog and donkey
Beth finds out that the words 'dog' and 'donkey' start with the same letter and the same sound.
Beth and her Dad are out walking down a street. Kim appears with her dog.
BETH: Dad look, there鈥檚 Kim!
BETH'S DAD: So it is! Hi there Kim.
Kim walks up to greet them.
KIM: Hi there!
BETH'S DAD: Who鈥檚 this you鈥檝e got with you?
KIM: This is my dog Scruffles! I鈥檓 taking him for a walk, but I need to get home for my dinner! See you tomorrow Beth!
Scruffles jumps up on Beth before circling back to sit at Kim's feet.
BETH: Bye Kim. Bye Scruffles.
BETH'S DAD: Wasn鈥檛 that nice Beth. And Scruffles is such a lovely dog. Tell me this Beth, can you think of any other words that start with a 鈥檇eh鈥 sound?
BETH: Hmmm. Well dog starts with a 鈥檇鈥 sound. That must means it starts with the letter 鈥橠鈥.
BETH'S DAD: Very good Beth.
BETH: Hmm, well not 鈥檆at鈥. It starts with a 鈥檆eh鈥 sound, and not 鈥檖ig鈥. It starts with 鈥檖eh鈥 sound. What about鈥 duck!
BETH'S DAD: Well done Beth! That鈥檚 right. Dog and duck both start with the 鈥檇eh鈥 sound. Do you remember what soundthat is?
BETH: I sure do鈥 it鈥檚 a D!
BETH'S DAD: Good job Beth.
BETH: Yay! Seeing as I鈥檓 so smart, maybe as a reward WE could get a dog?
BETH'S DAD: Nice try Beth! But, seeing as you鈥檙e so smart maybe you can tell me how many claps you can hear in the word dog?
BETH: Hmmmm. I think it鈥檚 just the one clap, Dad. Dog.
As Beth says the word out loud, she does one clap.
BETH'S DAD: Brilliant Beth, I knew you would get it. Now how about鈥 donkey, how many claps are in that?
Beth looks daunted. They walk on into the distance together.
NARRATOR: Do you know how many claps are in the word donkey?
