Ordering numbers using hundreds, tens and units (signed)

Description

A class of children order a set of cards numbered from 1 to 500 using hundreds, tens and units. Mr Numbervator asks the children to sort the cards into groups of 1-100, 101-200, 201-300 and 401-500. He then asks the children to sort each group of 100 cards into groups of ten. Finally the children are asked to order each group of ten cards into the correct sequence of units. The cards are then displayed from 1-500 in the correct order.

Classroom Ideas

Give students a selection of three digit number cards and ask them to order them in the same way Mr Numbervator models in the clip. Alternatively students could write any three digit number on a whiteboard and order themselves into a human number line. Ask the students to do so without talking to add challenge.
