I was inspired by the ways in which Matthew Williamson develops silhouettes and how he uses pattern in his work. My main inspirations were Aztec patterns, Mexican embroidery, and bright colours used in festivals such as 'Day of the Dead'. I looked at traditional Mexican dresses like those sold at vintage stores, but rather than simply copy traditional Mexican costume, I chose to update the look and make the design more modern.
