Title: Mexico inspired aztec dress

While researching Mexico I learned about the Aztecs and their empire. The word empire inspired me to create an empire line. From the empire line the dress cascades in tiers of steps, like the ancient Aztec pyramids made of stone. The back of the dress is cowl-like, inspired and symbolic of the fall of the Aztec Empire. The Aztecs and Mexican artists such as Frieda Kahlo used lots of symbolism in their work. I researched Aztec symbols and found a basic flower symbol which I stylised and added colour to. I created a pattern with the symbol, which like the dress, is stepped. I thought it might be cool to have this embroidered as I noticed that some of the traditional dress was heavily embroidered. I am obsessed with exciting OTT jewellery so I wanted to incorporate this into my design. I created a pendant that is attached to the bodice and to the straps. This has some of the flower symbol on it also and some other patterns on it which I found while looking at Mexican jewellery. The colours were inspired by an Aztec statue that I found in a travel brochure. Matthew Williamson's designs were inspiring to me having found pictures in magazines of celebs wearing beautiful floor sweeping gowns on the red carpet. I also took into account his love of colour and pattern.
