When researching into my final design, I searched images of the traditional Mexican Peasant Dress. I liked the detail around the neckline on the garments and the obvious and contrasting stitching. I also liked the way the embroidery finished just above the bust area so the material gently skims over the bust and the stomach.I then looked into the garments created by Matthew Williamson, especially the autumn/ winter collection 2007. I noticed that pattern and print is very important in his designs and that a lot of his detailing was around the neckline- a similarity to the Peasant Dress.Furthermore I liked Matthew Williamson's use of hosiery that compliments the colours of the garments and how the bright or knitted tights contrast with the flowing qualities of the dresses themselves. For my own design I wanted to incorporate the detailing at the neckline of the Mexican Peasant Dress and the flowing dress designs of Matthew Williamson. I also wanted to design a garment that could be worn in summer and winter. Therefore the dress I have made can be worn alone in summer or spring, or with the metallic grey tights and the hooded coat I have designed as accompanying accessories for the winter or autumn months.I used a removable belt around the waist to accentuate the figure of the model. The dress can be worn without the belt. The coat also has a belt incorporated into the design so the coat relates to the dress underneath. Again this is removable. The tights I have designed as an accessory are slightly metallic, to contrast with the gold on the dress.I imagined the coat to be of grey wool, and for parts of the coat to have a grey pattern on it (for instance on the inside of the hood and the lapels.)I feel I have created a dress and accessories that can be worn in most seasons of the year, and reflects Matthew Williamson's style as well as my own and has traditional Mexican influences.
