Title: School years

by Steven from Lancashire | in writing, fiction

EXT. SCHOOL YARD. Morning.

It is the start of a new school year. Most of the students are in the school yards, which are catching up with their friends on what they did during the summer holidays. Some students are just arriving in their parent's vehicles and some on the school bus.

The school bell rings for the start of the day and the students end to their first class of the year, which is form period.

Cut to;
INT. CLASSROOM- FORM. TIME CONTINOUS

The students enter the classroom, take a seat and stick their bags underneath the table. Joe walks towards Amy's table, Amy smiles and Joe's smiles back.
Scott enters.
Scott:
What do you think you're doing?

Joe just ignores him and tries to find another seat.

Amy:
There was no need for that.

He sees an empty seat next to another student called Ben. He walks over to Ben. With the gossip still going on in the background on what they did during the summer holiday.

Scott:
Oh come on he's ginger, nobody really cares.

Joe:
Excuse me, is anyone sat here? (shy)

Ben:
No, you can sit there if you want.

Joe:
Thanks!

Steven pulls out the chair and sits down and places his bag underneath the table.

Ben:
My name is Ben.

Joe:
Joe (shakes hands with Ben).
How come you are sat on your own?

Ben:
All my friends are in another form.

Joe:
Yeah, so are mine.

The teacher enters the room and sits at her desk that is at the side of the board and in front of the class so that she can see everyone.
The talking is still going on.

Miss. Rose:
O.K everyone quiet please (calm.)

All the students ignore her and carry on talking.

Miss Rose:
Quiet! (shouts).

All the students finally are quiet.

Miss. Rose:
Thank you, good morning class. I hope you all have had a wonderful summer holiday. At the moment I don't mind you sitting where you want, but if there's any problems I'll move you all in a boy, girl seating plan.

I'm now going to do the register and after I have done the register we need to go to the hall for an assembly. When I call your name I would like you to raise your hand
and say, yes miss.

Miss. Rose opens the register, pick up a pen and starts calling out names to see who is present

Miss. Rose:
Amy?

Amy:
Yes Miss. (with her hand in the air)

Miss. Rose looks towards Amy so she can remember who she is. Miss. Rose does this on each name.

Miss. Rose:
Joe?

Joe:
Yes Miss.

Miss. Rose:
Scott?

Scott:
Yes Miss.

Miss. Rose:
Olivier?

Olivier:
O.L.I.V.I.E.R Miss.

Most of the class and Miss. Rose turn to look at Oliver thinking that she is weird.

Miss. Rose:
O.k.'let's just carry on with the register. Brandon?

Brandon tries to beat Olivier on spelling his name faster than Olivier.

Brandon:
B.R.A.N.D.O.N Miss.

The class and Miss. Rose look at the other side of the classroom, thinking that he is also weird. Brandon stares at Olivier and gives her a smile and Olivier stares back giving him evils.

Miss. Rose:
Right o.k., I know all of you can spell your name so please, just a yes miss and a hand in the air please.

Michael:
Awwwwwww and I was really looking forward to spelling my name too. (Sarcastically)

INT. SCHOOL YARD. TIME CONTINUOUS.

Still heading towards the hall, Scott decides he doesn't want to go to the hall and pulls Amy back by her arm. Daz also stops to see what is going on. However Amy refuses and pulls her arm away from Scott and continues walking towards the hall with her mates.

Scott:
Fine then! (Annoyed)

Scott walks in the other direction, with Daz following.

Daz:
Where are we going?

Scott:
P.E block, so I can have a fag.

Scott and Daz get out of sight so no teacher can see them.

Scott:
Daz, make sure no teacher is coming. (Talking with the cigarette in his mouth and lightening it with his hands covering the flame, so that the wind does not put it out).

Daz keeps a look out for any teachers coming.

A P.E teacher (Mr. Whistle) is walking down the steps near the P.E block and notices somebody is hiding at the side of the P.E block. He picks up the pace and heads towards them.

Daz:
A teacher is coming! (In a panic)

Rushing, Scott has one more gasp of his cigarette, throws it on the flow and stamps on the cigarette.

Scott and Daz run around the P.E block to get away from the teacher.

Daz:
So much for not getting caught!

Scott:
We haven't.

When they get to the school gates, Mr. Berg is stood there.

Mr. Berg:
All right boys?

Out of breathe, Daz and Scott look at one another in a disgrace.

Mr. Berg:
And why are you two boys not where you are supposed to be?

Scott:
Bus arrived late sir.

Mr. Berg:
Did it now (not really believing them as it is the oldest trick in the book), are you both in year 7?

Scott and Daz:
Yes sir.

Mr. Berg:
The assembly is probably finished now (looking at his watch), so you two boys might as well go to your fire points. I will show you where that is.

Mr. Berg and the boys walk down to the tennis courts.

The assembly has just finished and with the fire alarm going off for a practice, the students and the teachers head towards the fire assembly point (tennis courts).

Miss. Rose class head towards were Scott and Daz are.

Scott and Daz watch as they head towards them.

Scott:
That teacher said it's a fire practice. It's not, it's his hair that set it off (looking at Steven).

Scott and Daz start laughing.
Amy heads towards Scott and holds his hand and gives him a kiss.

Scott:
Oh, so you want to be with me now?

Amy:
What you being like that for?

Scott:
You walked away from me earlier.

Amy pulls her arm away from Scott and moves away from Scott.
Miss. Rose stands with her class and Mr. Berg.

Miss. Rose:
Can you all stand in straight line, in alphabetical order please.

While the class gets in alphabetical order, Mr. Berg is talking to Miss. Rose about Scott and Daz.

Mr. Berg:
So they were in on time this morning?

Miss. Rose:
Yeah.

Miss. Rose shows the register to Mr. Berg.
Mr. Berg takes the register off Miss. Rose to have a better look.

Mr. Berg:
It says here that they are in my math's class next. Let me take them as soon as you have done the register.

Mr. Berg hands back the register back to Miss. Rose. While Miss. Rose goes down the line and makes sure everyone is there who is supposed to be; Mr. Berg point to Scott and Daz.

Mr. Berg:
You two boys come with me.

Scott and Daz walk over to Mr. Berg. Scott and Daz follow Mr. Berg.

I went through being bullied at school and I thought iI would write a script about it with a few comedy moments, as not all of my school life was bad. (over exaggerated)
