Title: Four brothers

by Alan from Northern Ireland | in writing, poetry

Four brothers of the earth,
United they can spell disaster,
But without them life would not be as we know it.

The ground on which we stand:
Constantly changing, depending on its mood.
Earthquakes, volcanic eruptions and tidal waves
Or natural beauty like the Rocky Mountains or Niagara Falls.
Many treasures it holds, like gold and precious rocks,
We take for granted every day.

Invisible, a cool calming breeze,
Or a twister so big it has its own name,
Can be so cold it feels like it can cut you in half,
Or a warm, calm and refreshing morning breeze,
It can simply swish about leaves in the wind,
Or keep a Boeing 747 flying in the sky.

Two-faced, a life saving warmth,
Or a life ending inferno?
It can fool you with its dirty tricks,
Flickering, calmly like it could give up and extinguish at any moment,
Or can turn into a deadly blaze as quick as you can look at it.
Now you see it' now you don't.

A graceful liquid,
Happy to sit all day and go back and forth,
And back and forth,
An almost friendly element,
But don't upset it or its hidden powers, it will reveal
All sorts of treasures is does conceal.
