Before I start I'm going to be honest I have never been a fan 70's/80's music (radio 1 tends not to prepare you for such a concert) and when I decided to first aid at this event with Red Cross, which plays such music, I decided I could combine it with my arts award as these events tend to be quiet. To be fair I couldn't have imagined such a perfect day for a concert either the day was blisteringly hot and being the evening the sun was setting ' very picturesque

The band were called "Chance" and to be fair it's quite a big band with (yes I'm sad enough to count) 2 backing singers, 2 people on some kind of guitar (my music knowledge shines again), a drummer, 1 saxophone and 1 keyboard player.
When I saw this band appear on the stage I was prepared for the worse but to be fair I was actually really surprised! They didn't stick with the genre foreseen and totally out of the blue in the first half a rendition of The Zutons (Amy Winehouse for some of you) 'Valerie' appeared and it sounded really well done. Other tracks in their playlist included the Jackson 5, S Club 7 ('Reach for the stars') all of which you could tell were well practiced and excellent to listen to and appealed to most members of most families.
But then the break hit and many of the families went home and then you could see why they were attached to the genre hits from ABBA and several other old bands I have never heard of before were played and while they were spruced up they didn't really excite me at all despite them sounding good and the older people in the crowd absolutely loving them. Thinking that was it for the rest of night I switched off a little but the last few tracks really got the crowd going and appealed to all. Tracks included Proclaimers, '500 miles' and then 'Is this the way to Amarillo'. While they weren't as good as the originals (it's hard to replicate such quality live) they did a pretty good job certainly getting the crowd on their feet dancing.
It all finished just after 10 and I was very impressed with the performance, the band produced music (at some point or another) that appealed to all and managed to put a very interesting (in a good way) twist on the tracks. However the band never really seemed to capture the whole crowd at once and I never really got the impression that they particularly wanted to show everyone their music which is a shame. Anyway still a good band and if you get the chance go see as it would appeal to most people.
