Title: The enemy

by Sophie from Dorset | in writing, poetry

The drums are beating in my ears,
None of the soldiers dare come near;
Easily I could take their lives,
And leave at home their sobbing wives;
Their children shocked and scared of me,
A nightmare monster they can't see;
Brothers, sisters and cousins too,
Pray for the brave men next to you;
Fighting hard but falling harder,
My grenade;
A thirty yarder.

War is a terrible thing, but it can make for some strong poetry. I started to write the first few lines of this piece, and the rest just fell into place.
