Title: A small chicken joint

by Alice from London | in writing, poetry

As I walk past Morley's on Rye Lane
It takes me a minute to take in the pain
As I see KFC and Maccy Ds
All surrounding it in their twos and threes
A small fried chicken joint never stands a chance
Even less of one than a Wimpy's would in France
But as I look in through the glass window
It's full of people handing in their dough

A small Chicken shop
In one giant world
Wouldn't stand a chance, but still...
They've got a shop in Elephant
And that's zone one

The one chicken joint without a hope
Is thriving

From the Halal sign on the front of the clear door,
You can tell it's loved yet it may still be poor
It aint much competition for KFC,
But it's still doing as well as can be
People from all cultures eating their chicken wings
Except for some who think they're too posh for these things
But they're serving the people who need it most
And that's more than Burger King can boast

A small Chicken shop
In one giant world
Wouldn't stand a chance, but still...
They've got a shop in Elephant
And that's zone one

The one chicken joint without a hope
Is thriving

There's a man who's doing the gambling machine
The lucky fish lights up shades of turquoise and green
He still didn't win but there we go...
He only wasted a fiver, you know
The plastic seats tell a story of love,
Fried chicken and maybe some blessings from above
When I see a new Morley's I want to cry
With a sense of happiness that will never die

A small Chicken shop
In one giant world
Wouldn't stand a chance, but still...
They've got a shop in Elephant
And that's zone one

A small Chicken shop
In one giant world
Wouldn't stand a chance, but still...
They've got a shop in Elephant
And that's zone one

The one chicken joint without a hope
Is thriving

I listened to a song in Hebrew called 'The old bus station' and decided I could change the words to whatever I want, so why not about fried chicken?
