Title: Ice cream disaster.

by Sophie from Cheshire | in writing, fiction

It isn't raining, but it soon will be as the heavens are threatening to open at any moment, still a middle aged woman is purchasing ice cream from a pink and white coloured van as if it is a summer's eve.
Woman: (smiling politely) and a screw ball please.
Ice cream man: That is three pound nineteen please love.
But the woman never pays for her frozen desserts because as she steps backwards off the curb to see the coins in her hand better a car flies past a knocks her clean off her feet. There is a loud bang as she hits the bonnet and rolls off and a crunch of bones as she falls under neither the vehicles monster wheels. There is no doubt that the driver hasn't seen the woman, yet he carries on speeding past the scene.
Ice cream man: (rushing out his ran and cursing under his breath) are you ok? Cause not stupid question. (Kneeling down beside the woman and checking for a pulse) Oh God! What has that animal done to you? You...can't be dead you just can't be...I...
The ice cream looks up and down the street looking for a pass by to help but the street is deserted. He pauses for a minute not knowing what to do. He knows which house the dead woman lives at, she is a regular. He slowly walks over to her door and knocks. A little girl answers the door.
Little girl: hiya
Ice cream man: (tearful) Oh...I
An older girl comes to the door.
Older girl: (confused) can I help you?
Ice cream man: (leads them outside) you're mum....I...think...she...is...Dead.
A teenage girl has been watching the events below from her bedroom in disbelief, as she watches the two girls breakdown at the sight of their dead mother something inside jolts and she finds herself running down the stairs to the kitchen.
She runs up to her own mother and hugs her tight.
Her mum: What is that for?
Girl: I just love you mum.
Because no matter what we may think every teenager needs a nagging mother to annoy the hell out of them.
