Title: My world - all the same stage

by Connie from Hertfordshire | in writing, fiction

Girl A, Boy A and Girl B should all be very obviously part of the same race/culture perhaps this can be expressed by clothing or skin colour. Boy B is different
The point is that race doesn't make a difference. Girl A and Boy A are tackling exactly the same issue as Girl B and Boy B even though the pairing is different. At the end the audience assumes it's their race that is keeping Boy B and Girl B apart but he makes a joke about the Rolling Stones instead.

On stage the two scenes can run side by side.
If set is required it could be Girl A's bedroom and Girl B's bedroom.

Boy A: The cinema?

Girl A: Nah

Boy A: Bowling?

Girl A: Not really in the mood.

Boy A: The Park?

Girl A: You think that's a step up from the cinema?

Boy A: I thought you asked me where I wanted to go.

Girl A: (smiling) It was a closed question.

Boy B: Well where'd you want to go?

Girl B: The shopping centre?

Boy B: On a date?

(Pause)

We are'? Well I thought that-.

Girl B: (hastily) Yeah, you're right.

Boy A: You're sure?

Girl A: Positive.

Boy B: You're not ' nervous, are you?

Girl A: What?

Boy B: About going out with me.

Girl B: (laughing) Why should I be nervous?

(Pause)

Boy B: 'Coz we're' different

(Pause)

Girl A: I know.

Girl B: It doesn't matter.

Boy B: I know

Boy A: It's just'

Girl A: What?

Boy B: I still don't understand how you can hate The Rolling Stones.

Two couples getting ready to go out and although they're different they find themselves in the same situations. I really wanted to put across the point that everybody should be treated the same regardless of race or background.
