Title: Keep Me Locked In Paradise

by daisy94 from Lancashire | in writing, poetry, dark

I sit beside myself. Warm fire cold house.
But worry is safe, more rational than
My own natural thoughts. I keep it close
To my chest like its the best card in the pack.

It keeps me sane, my only
Explanation for the control I hold
Over my own destiny.
There's no such thing, it tells me, and I'm
Left with this power which everybody questions.

My best friends are my butterflies,
I'm a small hamster wrapped
In the throat of a warm snake.
They promise never to let anyone get to me
And I keep them tight inside my stomach so there's

No there's room for anything else to
Worm its way in.

My best enemies are my butterflies
Who won't let me out now even though I
Really really really want to.
I know they're right, but all I want is
To live my life outside dream my dreams
Without the burden of my own knowledge.

I plan my escape from these creatures that have filled
Me and prevented the bitter-sweet life that I hated.

Because I can't bear to live without
The pain and the suffering covered with
The little things that make me smile.

I'll escape for a little while and
These butterflies can flutter their innocent
Wings and take me to paradise
When they will.
