24" cicular canvas with oil paints From the many different and varying meanings and symbolism behind the myth of Medusa I have chosen to represent her as the lonely, cursed and heartbroken soul she was. Medusa was once a stunning beauty that was known for her long flowing hair and captivating eyes but now - cursed by Athena who turned her hair into deadly spitting snakes is, for me, the symbolism of love and its denial. Whoever was to look upon this once beauty would be petrified and turned into stone by her deathly stare. Medusa simply could not love.
