Chris and Kate's autumn hotspots for Autumnwatch 2009

As part of Autumnwatch 2009's new shape and format, Chris Packham and Kate Humble will be reporting live from the every Friday night. Every week, they'll have been off investigating one of the great autumn highlights for that stage of the season, witnessing events first hand and then reporting back on the Friday live show.

Chris and Kate start the series by investigating a wildlife-rich cider orchard, just as the apples are ripening and harvest is in full swing. They'll be looking back at this summer and looking ahead to what this autumn may have in store.
In the following weeks, they'll be visiting many of the key spectacles and phenomena of this long and varied season, expanding on one of autumn's key themes each time.
Among other wildlife treats, they'll be:
- Monitoring the massive bird migrations on the south coast
- Visiting a wildlife rescue centre to meet young hedgehogs struggling to get into shape for hibernation
- Going to North Norfolk to witness the huge and spectacular roosting flocks of wading birds and wildfowl that come to the UK to shelter from harsh winters further north
- Spending Halloween week searching for bats and badgers (and other things that go bump in the night) around a haunted mansion
- Soaking up the glories of our autumn woodlands, alive with rich colours and a wild harvest, in the beautiful Lake District
- Exploring the dramatic and windswept Pembrokeshire coastline as autumn storms begin to batter our shores
- Ending the series by going north to the Cairngorm Mountains to meet the oncoming winter face to face, as sub-Arctic landscapes and wildlife feel its effects first
Producer-turned-presenter Martin Hughes-Games will again be on hand at base to report on what you've been seeing, saying and asking during the week, as well as presenting his own series of films about how you can get further involved with wildlife and chairing the discussion in our all-new Autumnwatch Unsprung on Â鶹¹ÙÍøÊ×Ò³Èë¿Ú Two.
From the end of summer to the start of winter, Chris, Kate, Simon and the team will immerse themselves in every chapter of autumn as it happens, reporting back - live and interactive - every week... hoping to inspire you to witness a wild autumn for yourself.
