Â鶹¹ÙÍøÊ×Ò³Èë¿Ú /Programmes as tags and hashtags

Backstage had the pleasure of talking to Jon Udell on his show on the recently. Near the end of the interview, Jon Udell suggested he liked the url system which we use for /programmes to a namespace, he then went on suggest it could be used for tags and hashtags to link comments, tweets, photos to Â鶹¹ÙÍøÊ×Ò³Èë¿Ú content. With some talking, it also became clear it would be possible to setup a converter service like shorturls. The service could take into account not only the words used but also the timing of the comment. So a tweet comment about the characters in Eastenders around 7pm could lead to the conclusion that Eastenders was being talked about. This would also be easier if subtitle data was available.

So how does this work practically? Well if I was listening to 6music and happen to tune into the new Orbital residency. I could find it on Â鶹¹ÙÍøÊ×Ò³Èë¿Ú iplayer here. Longer term of course it will be on /programmes using this url. Both use the code b00m0s19 (which is 47bit I believe?), so when using Twitter I could use the hashtag #b00m0s19. With most other sites it would be possible to use just the tag its self or even add more complexity like bbc:b00m0s19.

Interesting idea, what do others think?
