Newsnight from Liverpool

Tonight Gavin Esler and the team are presenting the programme from Liverpool - to mark the start of the city's status as the European Capital of Culture.
We'll be hearing from musicians, artists and performers, and of course some critics.
We have a film from Glasgow, the last British city to be awarded the title.
But what do you think about Liverpool - and about schemes like this?
Does Liverpool deserve the status and will it be good for the city? (Or after today do you expect not to hear about the event again?)
Is the award recognition for a city with an incredible cultural heritage and is the best yet to come or is Liverpool's creative heyday already history?

Hi Newsnight
Could I ask whether David Grossman, if he gets the opportunity to interview John McCain in the US Primaries and explores the nature and expectations of leadership with him, whether he might be able to ask Mr McCain if there might be a case for preventing anyone who has refused or chosen not to fight for their country in time of war from becoming President ie also C in C of the armed forces?
His answer might be quite newsworthy either way-
and could you ask Stephanie Flanders whether the police could investigate BA over the saudi affair if say they received a complaint from say a member of the public?
