Any Questions
started here for me - in the new St Pancreas station as everyone likes to call it. It's still in progress. Downstairs there are signs proclaiming the imminent arrival of a range of shops. For now, small shops and temporary carts are squeezed into available space. Upstairs there's this:
which immediately catches the eye, although getting a better view of it is restricted by fencing for now. You can peer at a Eurostar train if you're that way inclined
although as you can see most of these commuters waiting for the 1555 to Nottingham (they all had colds) were busy doing not very much.
They should ban those Cornish pasty places from setting up at stations. One had a stall right next to that group above, and the delicious smell wafted everywhere.
Although the programme was coming from Barton under Needwood, the regular Any Questions dinner was booked for a nearby village. When Anne and Helen who run the show turned up, there was no chef and they had apparently lost our booking. A new place was found - nice view too - and we found ten minutes to grab some fish and chips. I have no photos of that and the speed we were eating it's probably just as well...

You should have gone to the Shoulder of Mutton, Eddie, rather than resorting to the local chippie (;o)), but on a rather more constructive note, the programme was, I thought, extremely good, and your mixture of occasional dry wit (always so quick - and the panel evidently like it!) and allowing the panellists to have their say without needless interruptions highlighted what a good chair you are.
Hope AA doesn't bring out too many loonies this afternoon for you! and that you have a relaxful evening and Sunday.
I'm going to have to listen at 1.10 saturday.

Enjoyed AQ's, don't often hear it all but excellent chairing, & just the right amount of wit! Enjoyed the intros to the panellists, but are they always that long? (Not a criticism... but did lose a bit of concentration partway through them, but there again was driving home from work with an empty brain! ;-)
Nice structural detailing....my local IKEA car park is quite interesting too, but for some reason most people don't notice it either, can't think why....
Just listened to Any Questions. Can't someone give JD a cold so you're back on next week? It's much mellower, but no less incisive when you're on.
I'm thinking of getting a russian looking cat maybe two, the other could be called Gerrrrrov.

Just about to have a listen to it all - caught 10 secs of you politely asking Margaret Hodge if she could Answer the Question.
No, Jonnie, I must disagree for once. I think the station pics are great - and give a sense of the beginning of the journey. Eddie had us in his mind as he set off on his adventure, like Paddington, perhaps with marmite or marmalade sandwiches to keep the wolf from the door.
And the other dimension to the photos is the roof. I'm beginning to think Mr. Mair has an eye for the unusual, for form and structure. As compositions I find them interesting. And just think how surprised those germ-ridden passengers were as they sat there and saw 'that chap from Radio 4' taking photos of them and the roof. It's all very evocative - I love 'em!
Thought AQ was excellent - all down to the quality of the person chairing.
Margaret Hodge was the weakest panel member by quite a bit, though, even if I didn't agree with some of the others.
I like AQ when Eddie presents, it is more of a meeting of minds rather than an antagonistic ego-trip.
Nice roof Eddie, but I think you may have alienated all your Cornish listeners!
Missed AQ but caught up with it on a AA, is the pets corner going to be a reqular feature?

Yes perhaps I was being unfair on the photographic contribution from Eric.
The structures are indeed impressive - though I rather prefer the more abstract works he has produced in the past.
Although last weeks TV Centre 'Sunset' was perhaps lacking a little colour - it did indeed encapsulate the moment.

I'm not really at liberty to say - however we do have the Parliamentary Under-Secretary of State for Crime Reduction - so we should be safe. We were due to have two bigwigs from the World service with us though - however the person at Bush Hse left it too late to confirm the booking and even a begging phone call was too late :-(
More excitingly though is that we have Ken Morley and Brian Cant staying with us. though Brian has had to be shunted across the road to my Mothers - staying with her noisy Schnauzers. They are both in a play at the Poole Lighthouse.
Deary me -- it's nearly too busy to blog at the moment!

I hadn't met Ken Morley - but he seems a lovely man. On offering to help him with his suitcase - I said:- "Gosh Ken that's heavy" and he retorted!

jonnie - I couldn't resist it! I already had a look at the details for the play - there are a heck of a lot of actors in it that I have heard of!

I didn't know Ken had sold his yanky cars, I think he once had a 1956 Ford Fairlane, a
1959 pink Cadillac Coupe de Ville and two 1970s Cadillac Fleetwood Broughams. Not very good for parking at Tesburys me thinks. But still, one would've have looked stunning outside The Cransley. :0)
