Welcome to our regular look at what's on Â鶹¹ÙÍøÊ×Ò³Èë¿Ú Red Button. Here we take a look at the next three weeks...

CBeebies Red Button

New CBeebiesYounger viewers and grown-ups with a sense of adventure may have noticed something new under the red button recently. That's because our CBeebies service has just seen a radical overhaul launching visitors into a big, bright and fun new world.

So what has changed?
Well, your children's favourite characters are now at the heart of the CBeebies interactive TV experience. A big, new and bright carousel now welcomes you into the service giving you easy access to games, other children's interactive services such as karaoke or quizzes, birthdays and star of the week messages.

Different Games
Reflecting the popularity of games for the young audience, a new range of activities has been specially created. The updated service brings with it brand new games for some of the most popular shows on CBeebies, including In The Night Garden and The Green Balloon Club. These new games replace the old ones, which had become increasingly outdated.

Satellite, cable and digital terrestrial viewers will have slightly different offerings from one another. This has enabled us to offer the best games tailored to each system. Cable viewers will see the changes soon.

Â鶹¹ÙÍøÊ×Ò³Èë¿Ú Children's producer Damian Vicary discusses the service in more detail this week on the Press Red blog.

CBeebies Red Button is available now on the CBeebies channel, and via page 5900 on other channels.
Sky, Freeview and coming soon to Virgin.
(not available on Freesat)

It's been seven years since CBeebies hit the digital airwaves, and ever since it first went live the red button offering on the channel has remained, to all intents and purposes, the same - bar one or two minor facelifts. All of that is to about to change with the launch of the brand new CBeebies Red Button service.

From this week, pressing the red button while watching the CBeebies channel will launch you into a big, bright, loud and fun new world.

Over the last few days we've been looking at how the CBeebies service on Â鶹¹ÙÍøÊ×Ò³Èë¿Ú Red Button has changed over the years. In part 1, it was a trip in the time machine to the first service in 2002 and yesterday in part two, we looked at the revamp from 2004 which introduced a castle design on satellite and a bus on the cable version.

The castle and bus designs weren't based on the main CBeebies channel branding so when, in March 2007, the CBeebies channel got a new look, the decision was taken to bring the red button services much closer to the channel in visual appearance.

Yesterday we began a tour showing how the Â鶹¹ÙÍøÊ×Ò³Èë¿Ú Red Button CBeebies service has changed and evolved over the years, starting with the initial service from 2002.

The original service featured games and stories, however in 2004 it was decided to redesign CBeebies to add in some more content, and give the whole thing a brand new look.

On Sky, the rather orange homepage was replaced by what became, affectionately known (for rather obvious reasons) as "The Castle".

In 2002 a new channel hit the airwaves as CBeebies was born. Since day one, the CBeebies red button service has been a key part of the proposition, providing games and stories to young children.

It's also been the service which our designers have been able to make the most visually rich services. Anyone who has ever met a 3 year old will be able to guess that a page full of text probably isn't what you want in order to engage them. So we've tried to make the CBeebies service a lot more visual and colourful than the average Â鶹¹ÙÍøÊ×Ò³Èë¿Ú Red Button page.

The actual designs have varied between our different platforms too. Normally we've try to keep visual designs similar between platforms, so if you've use the News Multiscreen on a Sky set top box, the Freeview version won't look a million miles away. However with CBeebies we've played a lot more with the design, when we can. For example, on Sky and Virgin Media we have more capacity for fancier graphics than we do on Freeview.
