Greater Manchester Police have a new approach to men who pick up prostitutes on the streets: instead of fining them, they go into a classroom and have to face up to what they're doing - and how it affects the lives of people living in the area.

Time and time again we get some new initiative aimed at ending the practice of prostitution. Century after century, the profession continues - and do we learn?
Do we stop for a moment and think "maybe we're coming at this all wrong."? Never.
Is it beyond the wit of a developed 21st century society to be able to come up with a new approach? Surely, if our aim is to safeguard both Prostitutes and the communities they operate in, then a highly regulated legalized system is the only answer.
When we make this into a MORAL arguement we do a huge diservice to those who chose to work in the sex industry. Sex is not dirty, or sordid. Selling sex is no more obscene than selling pharmacuticals. Wake up Britain, please.
It's about time this country accepted that there are people who enjoy sex without it forming part of a relationship. There should be areas where adults can go and have sex in the same way you can do normal things. Having said that, there should be ways of taking prostitution from the street and placing it in areas where everybody would be aware of what goes on, so there is a choice for the individual to go to or not. In much of Europe there are places which have live sex shows, where members of the audience take part. As long as people are aware of what goes on at such places, there would be no excuses for going to such a place and being surprised at the goings on.
