Do you write a diary? I mean in a traditional way on paper with a pen? I've tried to give up several times but feel too guilty. I began fillling one in at the age of 10 when I noted that an MP called "Squirrel Smith" visited my Rochdale primary school. I didn't however note his size. Anyway I regularly consider giving it up because it's time consuming and then something big happens (like giving birth to an 9lb baby) and I'm compelled to record it.
I rarely look back and read them but I can confirm that the teenage years are excruciating - what we all wore, who I fancied, whether John Kenny fancied me or my best friend, how stupid he must be for not preferring me etc etc. It's exhausting. Recently I had to say a few words at Julian Worricker's leaving do (he's back now on News 24 and Radio 4). I thought I might find a bit of material from my 1998 diary when Julian and I started presenting Five Live Breakfast together. On that heady September day I'd filled in five lines all about me. This doesn't surprise me but it is embarassingly vain. I did say I really liked him though. That'll please him. Have you managed to jack in writing a diary? Or have you swapped to writing online?
