Woe is England
- 21 Jun 06, 12:05 PM
Poor old Michael Owen - is that guy actually made of glass? Three minutes in last night and his World Cup hopes collapsed just like his knee.
But that was only the start of England's woes. Every time Sweden had a corner I hid my face behind a rather large fluffy cushion. Just what was going on in defence - basic schoolboy errors. And cometh the hour - but where is the kid? Baby-faced Theo Walcott stayed on the bench. What was the point in taking him then?
Turns out I'm not the only fan worried about their team.
Ghana's hoping they'll thrash the USA tomorrow and Italy will do them a favour by beating the Czech Republic. But Tina and Elois told us they're concerned about their strikers too following the suspension of Sulley Muntari.
Dutch fan Stella was just thankful they're meeting Argentina tonight with nothing riding on the game.
And England fans Sean and Mark really were fearful - Sven, England's defence, Beckham - you name it they're worried about it.
But for some nations there's no longer any need for fans to furrow their brow.
Stacy-Marie of Trinidad and Tobago (you can read her blog here) cried in a London bar yesterday when her team was sent packing to the Caribbean after that win by Paraguay. She's now throwing her support behind Ghana. If your team is on its way out of the World Cup who will you support now? Let us know.
I'll soon be leaving the office to prepare myself for tonight's games. Question is which game do you watch? There is only one television in our house and I know my husband will demand we watch Holland vs Argentina. I understand why but I might flick channels every now again to see how Ivory Coast are doing against Serbia Montenegro. I've really been quite taken with them.

I am ready for Group C. Group B was interesting: England VS Sweden and Paraguay VS Trinidad & Tobago. England being in 1st place with 7 points and the posibility of playing against Ecuador. Sweden in 2nd place and playing Germany. Cool!!!
Taking into account that in Miami, the Basketball Games [NBA] of Miami VS Dallas were in competition with the World Cup, I went into a Mid Life Crisis.
This was the Mid Life Crisis I went through [I am 44 years old]:On the way home from work, I lowered my car window and increased the volume of my car radio [to extremely high] for the England VS Sweden Game. Soon those who were with the World Cup did the same. It was great. I went to a restaurant to get bread for Marlene and Veronica, and some coffee for Marlene. In the process, I saw the England VS Sweden game on TV. I ordered a Wheat Milkshake [a Cuban/Spanish Tradition] with some Coffee and Cream. I asked the waitress to take her time with the order so that I could watch the game. Since the customer many times are right, she complied.
Another person sitting next to me asked who I was supporting. My response was England. Her question: "Why do you support England?". My answer was when I was down, and out, sad, England whether it be the kind hand of one of its citizens or its entertainment was there to remove the sadness. I added how England was kind to Miami when the National and Local Government [in America] was no where to be found. She remembered the help and solidarity of England. I also told her how the people of England called me after Hurricane Wilma and Hurricane Katrina. She finished by saying: "England is a humanitarian place. I support England too".
My Best Wishes and let's see what happens in Group C and D.

Owen should expect a miracle to be healed.
England needs a lot of practice defending corner kicks and to score from `corner kicks. In 3 matches they had givena poor show. Also everyone especially Lampard should practice to shoot at the 4 corners and also penalty kicks. evryone should practice shooting until they get 50-60% success as the knockout stages are on.

David Beckham is like an artist missing his paint brush. Its amazing how the english press and people keep emphasizing on him staying out wide and dont cluttered the midfield. He's the most creative midfielder they have, and they are restricting him to just crossing the ball from wide right. Its true what Glen Hoddle says, David Beckham doent play out wide right for Real Madrid. He plays tuck in in midfield, creatively passing the ball around and dictating the game. He only plays wide right in the final third. That helps him loose markers and make him more involve in the game. If not he will be just standing there waiting for the ball, and when it does he is already close down and cant cross the ball. The next day the English press and people will be saying he is just a pheripheral figure, hardly being involve in the game. And another poor performance from the English captain. He should be dropped!! Without realizing the truth is they fail yet again to make full use of his assets. Obviously the English did not watch him play in Spain. Always headlining his off the field activities, rather than how he is making a name for himself with his contributions on the pitch, and showing the world that an english footballer is as good as any other. Ask any Real madrid fan/player and they wil certainly say that he is the one of the main reasons why they are in 2nd spot in the La liga this season (despite all their problems!!), with the most assist in Spain. Furthermore the English are always criticizing how he never dribble pass people. Thats not his game, he has never done in at Man United either. Thats the reason isnt it that Rudd van Nilsterooy was fustrated with Sir Alex for selling David Beckham because he gets the ball early in the box, which is good for strikers. Unlike Cristiano Ronaldo (whom he is obviously dislike) who held the ball too long with his dribbling that the strikers eventually got closed down. Seriously guys, i may not be a tactician whatsoever.. you are not making the best out of certain player. David Beckham for example.
