Well done World

Richard Bowen | 11:47 UK time, Friday, 4 August 2006

Well, what can I say, last night was a World Have Your Say record breaker. In one hour we heard from 35, yes, 35 different countries, and here they all are...

Dubai, Lebanon, Israel (Gaza), America, UK, Nigeria, India, Pakistan, Sudan, Ukraine, Italy, Jamaica, Canada, Chile, Sri Lanka, Uganda, Somalia, The Netherlands, Bangladesh, UAE, Saudi Arabia, Tanzania, Ghana, Kenya, Sierra Leone, Malawi, Morocco, Hong Kong, Malaysia, Singapore, Germany, Brazil, New Zealand, Gambia and Libya.

Due to the MASSIVE response to the question, 'what's more important, religion or nationality?' we've decided to go back to it again tonight. We haven't had our meeting so no news as to the structure of the show but as soon as we know, you'll know.

In the mean time here's the best of the rest of the many comments we simply didn't have time to read out yesterday....

Chukwuka in Lagos Nigeria

As a christian, my religion is more important because it defines all aspects of relationships, natural or supernatural. Unfortunately in the practice of some religions, they fight for God or to preserve God just as they do for their country. That is the problem.

Annon

If man created religion why is there war?

Omar - Yalal ba village, The Gambia

Religion cannot be compared to nationality as ones religion determines whether you enter heaven or go hell.

Dan - Uganda.

Both are suicidal if driven to the extreme. We've got to strike a balance between the two.

Mohamed of Monrovia

I am a Sierra Leonean and a Muslim. Living in Liberia nationality means nothing to me.

Yahaya also of Monrovia

I'm black and an African. I can't be white or Arab. So, my nationality is my colour and my patrimony and it's me.

Ekani from Nigeria

Nationality brings about cohesion of the people, but strong belief in religion causes discrimination and fanaticism as seen in muslim world.

Abdu in Liberia.

Religion and Nationality are divisive means by mankind to create war on earth.from

Moses, Nigeria

As far as the moslem who know their Islam is concerned, the moslem is first a moslem before anything else.

Kalisa from Uganda

I'm afraid that the question may be a wrong one. Religion should help man live in harmony but some people have committed terrible things in the name of religion.

Hayley

For me religion is a private mater so my nationality comes on top.

Tokunbo - Lagos

Religion is creation of man. It is indeed a negation of society/nationality. It has turned out to be the cause of the demise of all of Africa removing in us, practical living, independent mind and self appreciation of life. We live in a superstitious world instead of real practical life.

Toni - Kampala

In uganda, people appear in great numbers on xmas day for prayers in churches and in mosques for idi than in any voters day ever.

Chinthuli Peter from Malawi

Apart from the revolutionary jesuits acts, religion has remained static with nationality dynamic as science, therefore nationality reigns.

Abdullahi (Ghana)

My religion is of course more important because it forms the basis of my existence. So my religion is first before any other thing.

Idrisa from Zanzibar.

Religion is supreme! Like God, no matter where you are the psyche controls all actions. Religion controls more than politics, economics and nationalities. I am Christian, Kenyan and happy.

Annon

Religion is more important to most people because it cuts across boarders.

I am Zacharia a Sierra Leonean, muslim in Liberia.

Religion is more important to me than nationality.

Jaguraga,The Gambia

Religion is the fundamental to everything we do. It helps us function efficiently if apply properly.

Kimani Muslim. Nairobi Kenya.

Religion comes first. Even Bush & blair have admitted their going to Iraq was religiously guided -crusade.

Jacob, Tanzania

My religion is more important as it helps me relate to issues in my nation.

Moses from freetown

The current events are not religious nor nation based. Just madness! Irrationality in every sense. Extremity is the factor behind it all!

Yahya, Freetown

I am a Muslim my Religion is far more important to me than any thing else.

Ahmed of Monrovia.

Religion is better than nationality because it can live any where comfortably without your nationality but without religion you can be regarded as an animal. Religion guides you here and hereafter.

Nonso in Nigeria.

My religion is the most basic & intrinsic part of my life. My nationality is a fluid geographic incident. They don't compare.

Godfrey from Kampala

Religion is a whole colonial thing which is responsible for all of Africa's problems.

Isaac

In Uganda christianity is the foundation of nation since God is the creator and source of all life present&eternal, though man has used religion for evil

Mathew in Tanzania

Neither religion nor nationality is important to me what is important to me is The Almighty God and the social harmony of the society.

Nicholas - Kenya

My religion is more important to me than Nationality. My religion play's a major role in my life.

Religion is more important than country, why? Because countries come and go.
