Homeless for the holidays

Austerity means something real to many people around the world at this time of holidays.

Recession, high debt and cutbacks in government welfare projects have led to fears that the number of people forced to give up their homes and live in temporary accommodation or even on the streets will rise.

This Thursday, World Update will be coming from one of the temporary shelters in London set up by the charity . For a few days, they will offer food, clothing, shelter, healthcare and advice to hundreds of people who have lost their homes. We'll hear from people at the shelter, and get perspectives on homelessness from around the world. Join us if you can. And follow us on and
