Brunel 200


Brunel weekend travel

As the city gets into Brunel mode to celebrate the engineer's 200th birthday - road closures are planned around the city centre.

On Saturday 8 April roads leading to and from the Clifton Suspension Bridge will be closed. These include:

  • Suspension Bridge Road - closed 12 noon to midnight.
  • Portway - Cumberland Basin to Sylvan Way - closed 4.30pm - midnight.
  • Bridge Valley Road - 4.30pm - midnight.
  • Brunel Way - closed 7pm - 10.30pm.
  • Sion Hill - closed 7.30pm - 10.30pm.

Parking

There is very limited car parking close to the event. Drivers are advised to use the Park and Ride services at Brislington and Long Ashton.

Alternatively the following car parks will be open: Trenchard Street, West End, Millennium Square, Wapping Wharf, Jury's Hotel, ss Great Britain, Bristol City FC and Bristol Zoo.

Park and Ride

Visitors wishing to enjoy the entertainment on Observatory Hill can take advantage of a special Park and Ride service operating from 5pm from car park H – the Coach Park, The Mall at Cribbs Causeway to Pembroke Road, Clifton and Hotwell Road. Take Junction 17 from the M5 and follow the signs.

The 8 and 9 buses run from Temple Meads and the city centre to Regent St in Clifton – a five minute walk to Observatory Hill and the Clifton Suspension Bridge.

Buses and ferries

Last bus from Maritime Heritage Centre for Brislington and from Clift House Road for Long Ashton depart 11pm.

Due to the road closures for the event, temporary bus stops will be provided on Clift House Road. Services will be diverted via Coronation Road, so please allow extra time for your journey.

There are many bus services to the city centre, a 20-minute walk from the main stage. Visit www.traveline.org.uk for details.

Ferry service to event site every 15 minutes between 6.30pm and 10.30pm to and from city centre. £1 flat fare.

Rail

Anticipated reduced service due to engineering works from 10.15pm on 8 April to 2.15pm on 9 April between Swindon and Bath.

Downs League

The road closures have also caused the cancellation of all Downs League football matches on the weekend of 8 -9 April.
