What is a privacy notice? Ìý

This privacy notice tells you what personal data the Â鶹¹ÙÍøÊ×Ò³Èë¿Ú and the European Broadcasting Union (EBU)collects about you, how we use it and what you can do about it.

Personal data means any information that can be used to identify you, such as your name, address, or photo. This privacy notice is designed to be read by children and young people; you might want to read it with your parents or guardians.ÌýÌý

Why are we doing this and how can you participate?Ìý

At the Junior Eurovision Song Contest singers from different countries will compete and one singer or act will be crowned the winner. All the singers will sing a brand-new song and will receive a score form a jury and by people like you, who vote for their favourite three acts.

To vote you will need to have a Â鶹¹ÙÍøÊ×Ò³Èë¿Ú account. If you don’t have one already, you can set one up for free at https://www.bbc.com/register. If you are under 13 years old, please ask your parent to help.

Why do we collect and use your personal data?  Ìý

We will only collect your personal data when we need it to help us do our job or to follow the law.ÌýÌýWe collect it so that you can vote for your favourite singer or act in the Junior Eurovision Song Contest and so that your vote is counted correctly.

To do this we will collect and use this personal data:

  • user Agent (hashed)

  • your country of origin

  • IP-address (hashed)

  • the Act you have voted for derived from the contestant ID

  • timestamp

Who looks after your personal data?ÌýÌý

The Â鶹¹ÙÍøÊ×Ò³Èë¿Ú and EBU are together the data controllers of your personal data.

A data controller is in charge of the personal data collected about you.Ìý

The Â鶹¹ÙÍøÊ×Ò³Èë¿Ú has appointed a Data Protection Officer; this person makes sure we do everything the law says we should. The rules we have to follow when we collect your personalÌýdataÌýÌýÌý

The Â鶹¹ÙÍøÊ×Ò³Èë¿Ú and EBU follow the data protection rules when we collect and use your personal data. The rule that we are using to collect your personal data for the Junior Eurovision Song Contest online voting is called legitimate interest.

We use this rule so that we can:

  • see what country you are voting from and that your vote is counted from the UK.

  • Forward accepted votes and official voting results and checking for any voting problems.Ìý

  • creating combined statistics on the voting in the competition

  • publishing combined and anonymized resultsÌý

If you decide to cast your vote online, we use your consent to collect your personal data so that we can:

  • correctly count and create valid and official results of the competition based on the votes given by the audience (including yours) to decide the ranking of the songs entered in the competition and reveal the winner

Will your personal data be shared?ÌýÌý

The voting platform will use your personal data to count your vote.

When we have to share your information with other people, we will only share it so we can do our job or when the law says that we have to. When your personal data is shared with someone else, they must keep it safe and only use it in a way that the Â鶹¹ÙÍøÊ×Ò³Èë¿Ú and EBU tells them they can use it.Ìý Ìý

How long will we keep your personal data?  Ìý

We will keep your personal data for as long as needed to count all the votes and for as long as the law says that we have to. After that it will be deleted.

We may also share personal data with a third-party where compulsory or allowed by law.ÌýÌý

The Â鶹¹ÙÍøÊ×Ò³Èë¿Ú will store your personal data in the UK and the EEA.ÌýÌýThe voting platform we use may store personal data outside the EEA, but we have contracts in place with them and they will keep the data safe and secure, just like we do.

  • Ask to see the personal data we hold.  Ìý
