Johnny's Breakfast Omelette

Elektra from The Dumping Ground dishes up Johnny's breakfast omelette. Follow the instructions below to make it yourself. Make sure you get a grown-up to help.

You will need
  • 1 tomato
  • 3 free-range eggs
  • 1 tbsp milk
  • 1 tsp butter
  • 2 tbsp grated cheddar
  • 1 tbsp finely chopped parsley or 1 tsp dried parsley
  • 2 thin slices of good ham
  • salt and pepper

Step 1

With the help of an adult, cut the tomato in half, discard the seeds and juice and finely dice.

Step 2

Take your eggs and crack them into a bowl – don’t put them directlyÌýinto the pan as you need to mix them first! Add a pinch of salt andÌýpepper to the eggs and stir in the milk.

Step 3

Now it's time to beat the eggs. First use a fork to break up the yolks (this makes beating the mixture easier). Then tip the bowl gentlyÌýand using a fork in a circular motion beat the eggs until the yolks andÌýwhites are fully combined and the mixture has an even colour.

Step 4

Ask an adult to help bring your pan to a high heat and add the butter. Pour in your eggÌýmixture and cook on a high heat for 2 minutes, making sure that theÌýmixture is spread out evenly. Then reduce the heat.

Step 5

As the egg begins to set, use a spatula to push the set egg towardsÌýthe omelette centre, tilting the pan so the runny egg fills the space.ÌýAdd the tomatoes and most of the cheese and parsley. Arrange theÌýham on top.

Step 6

Cook the omelette for another minute, then loosen the edges with aÌýspatula. Slide the omelette from the pan onto a warmed plate, tiltingÌýthe pan so that the omelette folds nicely on to the plate.

Step 7

Sprinkle with the remaining cheese and parsley and serve.

Tips:

  • Remember to alwaysÌýwash your handsÌýbefore cooking.

  • To crack an egg, holdÌýthe egg in one handÌýand tap it gently on aÌýwork surface.ÌýYou need to just dentÌýthe shell. Don’t tap tooÌýhard, or you’ll shatterÌýthe egg, break the yolk,Ìýand end up with shellÌýpieces in your bowl.

  • If a piece of eggshellÌýfalls into the eggÌýmixture, use theÌýeggshell to nudge it upÌýthe side of the bowl andÌýout.
