CBeebies Panto Party

CBeebies has food, drinks and games to help you plan your Alice in Wonderland themed tea party for this year's CBeebies panto.

Get the tea party started

This year's CBeebies Christmas Show will whisk you and your little ones down the rabbit hole and into a world of grinning cats, mad hatters and one scary queen! To celebrate the screening of CBeebies Alice in Wonderland, we’re creating a CBeebies Panto Tea Party and you can do the same at home or with friends.

We've come up with some fantastic recipes, things to make and games that will have your guests spinning with excitement. (We promise our food and drink ideas will not make your little ones bigger or smaller!)

Send us photos of your own party ideas

Nailed those jam tarts? Invented amazing placeholders? Dressed the teddies up? Failed that top hat make?

Don't forget to upload photos of your own Alice in Wonderland party ideas to our CBeebies Grown-ups Facebook page or to #TeaBeebies on CBeebiesHQ's Twitter.

Eat me, drink me...

Alice ate and drank many marvellous things on her way to the Queen of Hearts' croquet party. Here are a few sweet and savoury ideas that will delight your panto tea party guests.

You can find more recipe ideas on our CBeebies Tea Party Pinterest board.

Party idea:

Why not use cookie cutters or templates to cut your sandwiches in the shapes of the suits of cards, as featured in Alice in Wonderland? You could try hearts or spades.

Decorations fit for a queen

If you have time, you could make your own party invites and personalise each one by adding some bunny ears, a top hat or some card shapes.

To get your guests into the party mood, we have some easy ideas for some simple decorations to help your home look the part:

  • Card bunting

  • Funky table cloths and napkins

  • Mismatched tea sets and crockery

If you have the space, add extra (little and large) tables to your kitchen or dining table to create one long table for a true "Mad Hatter's tea party" feel.

Look the part

You can’t have a party without getting all dressed up! There’s no need to rush out to a fancy dress shop or spend hours on creating a bespoke costume. Try our Bunny Ears activity for a quick and easy fancy dress idea. Find some cool hats for your little mad hatters or just print out some shapes from a pack of card (such as the hearts) to become the Queen’s card soldiers. You could decorate the house with some Alice in Wonderland bunting and get your little one's friends over to join in the fun with the Alice in Wonderland party invite.

These video tutorials from the CBeebies panto’s make-up artist, will show you how to easily turn your little ones into the White Rabbit or the Cheshire Cat. You’ll need some safe face paints and brushes, but you can easily use soft sponges or even your fingers if you’re without brushes.

Make a (play) date out of your Panto Party!

Invite some friends and get the little ones to bring their favourite toys and dolls to join in the fun. To add a little extra Alice in Wonderland magic to your CBeebies Panto Party, see how many toy "guests" you can "invite" that are also characters from the book (you knew that stuffed tortoise would be useful one day...).

Wonderland was quite the curious, topsy-turvy kind of place so make your Panto Party a topsy-turvy affair. Serve your sandwiches in tea cups - and let the little ones forget their table manners on this one occasion - as you drink a small amount of refreshments from a saucer!

For a real treat, eat your pudding first and your main meal after. Pretend you are having your party on the ceiling and get your little ones to act is if they are upside down! (perhaps hold back on this one until food is digested!)

A party isn't fun without games. Instead of playing musical statues, keep the Alice in Wonderland spirit going by changing seats every 20 minutes - just as Alice and the guests do at the Mad Hatter's tea party.

Can't make the party on the 18th?

You can also catch it at 10.05am on 31st December on Â鶹¹ÙÍøÊ×Ò³Èë¿Ú One – how about a Mad Hatter’s breakfast instead?

If you can't make the very important date, CBeebies Alice in Wonderland is available for 30 days on iPlayer.

No matter when you watch the panto, don't forget to upload photos of your own Alice in Wonderland party ideas to our CBeebies Grown-ups Facebook page or to #TeaBeebies on CBeebiesHQ's Twitter.
