James Morrison was the perfect act to launch this year's Eden Sessions.

There were times when James Morrison looked overrwhelmed during his gig at the Eden Project.

It's understandable for a local talent who started his career busking in Truro in front of a handful of shoppers.

Those days are long gone, and the singer-songwriter performed in front of a sell out crowd of 6,000 fans to launch this year's Eden Sessions.

So what did the fans think? Our reporter Amy Gladwell was in the crowd at Eden. Click on the link below to hear her audio:

At one point in the evening James said: "I can't believe there are so many people singing my songs tonight."

It was proof that the journey from busker to superstar was now complete.

Support during the evening came from the Devon band 'Rushmore', headed by talented brothers Edward & Neil Ormand.

Rushmore were the first on to the stage at 8pm, and already thousands had gathered for the concert at the Eden Project.

The band performed many of their own songs, which were perfect for a summer's evening. The tracks were enhanced by the vocal talents of Edward and Neil Ormand.

The brothers' tight harmonies were reminiscent of a by-gone era when siblings like The Everly Brothers and the Beach Boys' Wilson brothers dominated the charts.

Speaking of nostalgia, the band surprised the crowd, with their own version of 'Maybe Tomorrow' - not the Stereophonics song, but the theme tune from the '80s TV show 'The Littlest Hobo'. If you were a child of the '80s it was a cheesy, but magical trip back in time - and the crowd and this reviewer loved it!

There was a 45 minute break to enable the Eden Sessions crew to clear the stage, and set up for the main attraction, James Morrison.

All the hits were performed with the same passion and enthusiasm as he had done at the Hall for Cornwall earlier this year. James Morrison sings about the things he believes in, mainly love and life, and the funny characters that can come your way. The 6,000 strong crowd were with him every step of the way.

It had been a busy 24 hours for James, which had seen him performing at the Concert for Diana in the daytime on Sunday 1 July.

As soon as his spot at Wembley was done, James jumped into a helicopter to fly up to his own headlining gig in Gloucestershire that evening

And then he was at Eden on Monday 2 July. If he was tired from his current frantic pace of life, it didn't show. Here was a man proud to be home, and determined to give his Cornish fans a passionate performance. He didn't let us down.

At 11pm, after the obligatory encore, it was all over. The 6,000 fans started to make their way home, happy they had seen one of their own, giving his best performance to date.

After the Eden gig, James now gets ready to head back to the USA for a tour with double-Grammy award winner John Mayer throughout the rest of July and August.

Cornwall's James Morrison, and Devon's Rushmore proved to be a fantastic opener for this year's Eden Sessions, which will also see Amy Winehouse, Lily Allen, Rufus Wainwright and The Pet Shop Boys entertaining the crowds at the biomes.
