the Indian cinema scene in Britain that started in the 1940s and became established in the 1970s when failing cinemas were bought and restored by Asian people.

The two most prominent Asian cinemas in Coventry were The Ritz on Longford Road and The Palladium in Hillfields.

The Herbert Gallery and Museum is showing a wonderful exhibition about South Asian cinema called 'Kabhi Ritz Kabhie Palladium'.

For a limited time there will also be a collection of cinema posters on display from such classic films as 'Bobby', Kabhi Kabhie' and 'Deewaar'.

The posters represent some of the best of south Asian cinema love stories.

Also on show are film clips dating from the 1950's to the present day, along with video clips of favourite song and dance spectaculars.Ìý

Taken from the British Film Institute's own collection, the display is a nostalgic look at the best of 'Bollywood', its stars and its history, and for those who are new to Asian film, it will be the perfect introduction.

The posters are on display at the Herbert Gallery from 7 February - 4 April 2004.

The main exhibition is called 'Kabhie Ritz, Kabhie Palladium' and brings classic film clips, photos and memories of south Asian film together. This main part of the exhinition runs from
31 January - 13 June 2004.

Entrance is free and the opening hours are:

Monday - Saturday: 10am - 5.30pm
Sunday: 12pm - 5pm
