us about Recurl...
Recurl
started about three years ago (2002) when I approached Joe Biddle
to record some of my songs. What started as a studio project has
become so much more.
Recurl were featured on the South West Sound compilation CD and
have been getting some rave reviews about the songs that we sell
as downloads from our site.
Originally we were going to be called Curl but someone already had
taken that name. When Joe and I were emailing each other about the
name the subject line was always re:curl...so....

Are
you still a studio band?
This last year has been about putting together
a live line-up for the band but now the priority is getting the
remaining tracks of the album completed for release under our own
label.
Who's
who in the band now then?
Me, Julia Dando, founder member vox and songwriter.
I'm originally from Exeter but now living in Plymouth.
Joe Biddle - producer, programmer, engineer, bass, drums, guitar,
wizard and all round genius really. Joe's Plymouth born and bred.
Other session musicians that have played on Recurl tracks include:
Jini Galvin (bass) and Christian Sleep (piano).
New members include: Alex Christaki (keys), Matt Brooks (bass) and
Mark Palmer (guitar).
What's
the song you've chosen to demo for us?
It's called Dad - and the inspiration for it is MY dad.
How
would you describe your sound?
Recurl
have worked very hard to bring you a sound that we think you'll
find irresistibly addictive and memorable.
We are the South West's next big thing! Be there when we make it!

If
you could invite three people to a dinner party - who would you
ask and why?
Ozzy Osborne - he makes me laugh and I love to
hear his stories.
Sharon Osborne - a hugely successful woman who is strong and determined.
And Simon Cowell - to serve the meal and wash up!
What
do you think of the current music scene?
Recurl are based in Plymouth and there aren't that many
venues in the city that suit our music. Cover bands seem to rule
down here and that's what venues seem to want.
There is little marketing for gigs and the culture of going to see
live music seems to be declining - but at least Plymouth has good
internet access!
And nationally..?
It's changing! The internet has opened up such an opportunity
for the unsigned artist - indeed it begs the question if anyone
needs to be signed at all thses days. Starting your own label is
the way forward, we think.
