Why is the three minute rule still in place so long after the world cup. It was a sledge hammer to crack a nut and surely is no longer needed. Can it be reduced, to one minute? See the irritation it causes . There are many more examples out there.

Another vote for the end of the flea. Even though that means I won't be able to post again for another 3 minutes, Harrumph!
maman
This wasn't just introduced as a World Cup thing.
However, I'm very sympathetic to the frustrations it causes and will enquire about the possiblity of reducing the delay.
If you can sort this out, Mr K, I will nominate you for some kind of award for services to the NHS. Singlehandedly you will have significantly reduced the nation's blood pressure
I will second it! Thanks Mr K.
Thirded!
(RED ALERT I must wait 1minutes 1seconds before I can post again. Slap wrist)

Eighthed. Doesn't look right, does it?
On the blood pressure thing, just tried to look up acid protease inhibitors on h2g2. Nothing. Not a sausage. Poor show, will have to dig out Monsieur's thesis.

ninethed!
Are we trying for the most tedious thread in Mustardland? Can we keep it going until we have outstripped How Big is the Village Shop? Is Shula loathsome?
I'm up for it. Let's give it a go - at least it might wake someone up in the Â鶹¹ÙÍøÊ×Ò³Èë¿Ú if N&Q started making ping-ing noises for the first time in its life!

I was going to ask what the three minute rule is, and now I have found out!
Well, I have enquired and I'm afraid you aren't going to like the response. There are no plans to ditch the delay or reduce it at the moment as the feeling is it has done a lot to keep spam and pointless chit-chat off the boards.
There's not much I can add to this except my apologies.

Also, if we had a different time restriction.... we'd get invaded.
Thanks for trying. I wonder what is considered spam and pointless chit chat. I would think that the majority of threads would be considered pointless by some people. I have learnt a lot in the short time I have been here - some of it I didn't know I wanted to know but at least I'm learning.
...it has done a lot to keep spam and pointless chit-chat off the boards.Ìý
Shouldn't The Bull and The Bull Upstairs be exempt, then, as their sole purpose is for pointless chit-chat?
I think that's a fair point, Peet.
The wicked side of me is thinking, "If the pointless chit-chat proliferates, notwithstanding the 3 minute rule, will that defeat their argument?"
Hi Peet! How many elastic bands do you have at the moment?
In response to Mr. Keri # 16
Thanks for enquiring on our behalf, much appreciated.
Am saying that so you know if I continue to keep on whingeing, protesting, shouting, whatever, it has nothing to do with you.´Hope all is well with you

Er, sadly none at the moment, lili. I was lamenting this earlier in the week when I needed to wrap up a half-packet of instant mash mix.
How're the napkins coming along? ;-D

I've been in a discussion on the History Boards in which we seemed to be running a test to see how frivolous we could be whilst disguised as a genuine historical debate. The mods haven't noticed so far.

Well, on the whole I find that the cloth ones are better for making the 'last Christmas turkey hanging up in the shop' - do you know that particular origami move? If you try it with paper ones, they tend to tear, and don't look much like a dressed turkey.
Oh, lovely! Are we back to napkins or serviettes again - pure joy!
Well, I do agree that a napkin is better for coping with the stuff dripping from a hung turkey.
Not sure about origami, though.
Feel on safer ground with origano, thyme, basil [oo-er - who mentioned Basil?]

No, Peet. The only creature responsible for tortoises would be another tortoise (or possibly two).
I just kill Freds.

This is not a Note or a Query. It is a demand for answers. Why have I FotheringtonThomas a relatively inoffensive poster been put into premoderation?
Because you took the sainted VW's name in vain!
Yes, Shula is loathsome. And it can't be said too many times.
I am new. I did not know that questioning the ways of VW could put my posting status in danger. Is this really true? It's important as I do not like VW at all (reminds me of Mrs T) and may feel moved to express anti-CamperVan feelings in the future.
>Why have I FotheringtonThomas a relatively inoffensive poster been put into premoderation?
You are not in premoderation.

If it were true, I would be even further from Borsetshire than I am here in sunny Gritviken.
Hi there - good reply, didn't think of it myself! No, you didn't ded the fred. It's the 3-minute thingy wot we can't "ded" yet.
But I am trying (bad joke: very trying)

Just to point out, in case anyone hadn't worked it out yet (though I can't see why an intelligent bunchlike you wouldn't have):
For long posts (such as in FA and some groups in TVH), if you click the 'Reply to this message' button BEFORE reading the post, you can then be reading whilst the timer counts down, which saves a bit of time.

POINTLESS CHIT-CHAT????? Our gems are not pointless chit-chat.
Err . .
Well not all of them.
And anyway, I thought that was the point of The Bull at least.

I would have thought Mustardland could be a special case - after all, we are all such angels...
Besides, as far as chit-chat is concerned, there can't be many other sets of messageboards where three out of the six boards have nothing to do with the the main theme (and long may it continue!)
Incidentally, whilst I'm ranting, why don't we have working smilies? I thought something was going to be done about that ages ago.
No smilies was a management discussion (i.e. by Keri) which many of us support. It received a great deal of discussion when we first moved to these boards a year ago and a fair bit since then.
Replying to Anglo-Norman
Re: ways to beat the 3 minute thingy
What a good idea, AN! I hereby cheerfully relegate myself to the UNintelligent on these boards.
I meant "management decision", not "management discussion".

message to mr k
"keeping spam and pointless chit-chat off the boards"
This must be one of the most ridiculous utterances your masters have ever come up with, mr k.
A message board discussing a radio soap, a board where one can make enquiries about the programme, several boards where people can discuss topics other than the programme, be frivolous etc. If this all doesn`t represent spam and pointless chit-chat, I should really like to know what does?
This has made me feel quite annoyed - reading how people feel about this delay, and then for them to receive such a reply.
We are listeners, not a load of schoolchildren to be patronised. The Â鶹¹ÙÍøÊ×Ò³Èë¿Ú has many privileges in comparison with other broadcasters, surely some obligations accompany this?
Though I am no longer a regular Archers listener, I would like to use the other boards, but the absence of any time thread (reinstatement of which has been constantly requested by us) deters me, and I don`t suppose I am the only one. In my case I might still be listening if that facility were still available, the discussions following the programmes were one of the great delights of TA.
Tell whoever it is who makes these ridiculous decisions (those same who go on Feedback and tell us that we are always wrong and mistaken with our criticisms, no doubt) that without listeners there would be no Archers, and no Â鶹¹ÙÍøÊ×Ò³Èë¿Ú; tell them before it all becomes dependent on advertising or quizzes and too late for all of us
cheers norma

That's an irritating delay. I have checked again and you are absolutely, positively not in pre-moderation.
I can put you in pre-moderation so that you can see what it's really like. Just say the word.
