(Sat 4 Nov at about 1025)
I'm having a mental block, I've been listening to TA for about 8 years, just joined this message board, managed to get a couple of things past the pre-mods, feeling quite proud of myself but I don't know who Graham Ryder is...........HELP!!

Here he is:
If you listen regularly you'll know Debbie manages the estate know so Graham Ryder will probably become a silent, if he's heard of at all.
I think he once tried to get a leg over caroline.

Thanks for that RT. Once I've got the hang of TA page I won't pester you with these niggling questions.
The leg over Caroline is a bit scary though
Brought in as a yes man to manage the Estate after Shula moved or was pushed when she objected to the way she was being asked to treat the Grundys (iirc)...
"I think he once tried to get a leg over Caroline"
True but that info won't help anyone to distiguish him from all the other male residents of Ambridge.

(and snork, Mr. Snowy.) He was one of Caroline's surprises (along with the memorable Mr Stapler Man) when she tried the Lonely Hearts column (in a rare gap in her busy social calendar). Graham turned up as her dream date.

The memorable Mr Stapler Man was Kathy's blind date
A bit off-topic, I know - but a thought just fought itself through my brain cell:
How do the scriptwriters manage all this information????
Years ago (listen up, my children) I used to fondly imagine them writing file cards (tongue between teeth in concentration, best joined-up script)

From what I've read you're not far out about the card index, though not sure what is used now. They have an archivist called Camilla - see for more info on how it works
Thanks for the link, Mabel - I am impressed by what Camilla does - but that she does it single-handed (or doesn't she?) takes my breath away.
I remember reading (where? possibly in "Forever Ambridge"?) and seeing on the T.V. documentary, I think "Underneath The Archers," years ago, that Valerie, would it be, kept a card-index, started when there was a mix-up: what stuck in my mind was the comment, "So Phillip Archer will always have to loathe goganzola cheese."
Found it.
"In addition, a card index records every fact about every character, location and incident that has ever been mentioned. This work is done by the Archers' "Assistant." For many years this was Valerie Hodgetts, now Mrs. Tony Shryane, who, like him, contributed enormously to the early success of the programme with an enthusiasm and dedication which placed the programme first and almost everything else second.
... And the present 'Assistant,' Valerie Fidler continues the same tradition, and had a motto: "It matters that we get it right." "
"Forever Ambridge" Norman Painting 1980
For many years this was Valerie Hodgetts, now Mrs. Tony ShryaneÂ
How odd. I've never come across "Tony" as a short form or affectionate form of "Valerie". Is it common?
(ok, ok, I know it was over 20 years ago, but still. Maybe Phil was served the gorganzola by someone called Valerie and can't bear to utter the name so has to substitute it with whatever comes to mind).

Oxfordlistener: you can't post today of all days. You (and all other MLers near you) should be scouring your local hotels for suitcases splattered with cow dung.
Don't worry Mr S, spies are out, reception desks bugged, etc. etc. Me, I'm going nowhere near anywhere they might be. Shudder at the thought.
