I'm still in limboland ... when I post in DA message takes forever to appear whereas in TBA and here in N&Q my wondrous words pop up within minutes.

Is there a reason? Or is it just the whimsical nature of the electronic world?

Thanks, mr k .... it's so nice to be noticed, even whimsically.

As you can see, i'm now 'out' ... which is great!

Would you kindly look at my other question herein about ** ... which i think is titled: About Those Pesky **

cassiopeia - **s are as simple and as complicated as has been explained before. They simply indicated whether you are logged in to ML or not. There is a small time delay so if you post immediately you log on you post will show up initially without **s against your name. Similarly, and more confusing for fellow MLers when you log out the **s will remain for what is various estimated at 5, 10 or 20 minutes.

You can thus tell when you are replying to a message in a thread whether the peson you are speaking to is in a position to reply to you or have a conversation.

Thanks for the explanation Reggie. (you don't mind the informality, I hope)

It's beginning to make sense. Your post, the one I'm responding to, has ** which must mean you're online - ie wandering somewhere amongst the threads. And something I just posted after reading SF's latest had ** next to my name.

The trouble is, I'm no longer on the SF thread so I can't converse with anyone there. And you probably aren't on here so we can't talk either.

So what's the point of the **???

To which I'm sure there's no answer.

Ah the joys of the cyber world.

cassiopia - you can find out what threads anybody is currently posting on by clicking on their name. This will give you the discussions they have contributed to and when.

I didn't know that!! You mean I can click on anyone and find out what they've been up to???

Good grief - isn't it shades of big brother (not the tv kind the other, orwell).

I know, I know, if you have nothing to hide and so forth - nontheless -

anyway, you're a wealth of info & thanks for taking the time to fill me in

    cass
