Is it possible for me to edit some threads out of my 'Your discussion' page? Some threads that I participated in some time ago seem to last for ever, and I don't have an interest in them any more and would like to delete them. Thanks.

Yes, westsussexbird. I'm sure that someone will be along soon who will explain about h2g2, the official way of doing things. Meanwhile, you could look at jont's and achilles' scripts, which I use. They have many lovely features, developed after explorations and discussions here; and one is an un-sub-scribe function. You tick as few or as many boxes as you like - and can even select 'all' at one tick; and when you unsubscribe, away they go. When you refresh your page, it will be uncluttered and topical again.
Info here: it is really very easy to install the scripts (you need firefox and greasemonkey, but can find those on the page) and it does not mess up anything else on your computer:
