Extract from a TA history website:
Is this correct? If so, when did Christine buy/inherit the Stables? Possibly when Dan died...
(Although all I remember from that time is her buying a racehorse, Fly....)
According to TBOTA,
"Poor health forced Fred Barrat into retirement in 1965, so Dan and Phil agreed to buy out his interest in the company. Fred sold Long Field, a meadow alongside Arkwright all, to Jack Woolley, and the remainder of the far to Laura Archer, who leased 100 acres to Ambridge Farmers Ltd and retained a small amount of land and the farmhouse, which she called'Onemonoma', the Maori word for 'Home, Sweet Home.'
Lilian Archers riding school was begun in the grounds in 1967, and when Laura mved to the more imposing Ambridge Hall in 1973, Lilian, by then married to Ralph Bellamy, bought the property, renaming it The Stables.
Chrstine Johnson joined Lilian in running the riding school and took it over after the Bellamys left Ambridge in 1975. Three years later she moved into the house."
"The Archers, The New Official Companion" (Wm Smethurst, 1987):
"The Stables were bought by Ambridge Farmers as a home for Christine Johnson after her husband died in 1978."
1978 it is.
Many thanks Rosie.....
Now I believe from another thread that Ambridge Farmers was dissolved following Dan's death in 1986. Did the Stables become Christine's personal property at that time? Certainly when all the shuffle-round happened on Phil's retirement, Christine sold the Stables to Shula and Alastair - didn't she....?

Cannot find reference at the moment (I am at the launderette) but I seem to remember that it was Chris's share of the Brookfield inheritance, and some conversation about the fact Aunt Laura had paid the Bull money for Jack and Peg, and Phil got he farm. Something like that, anyway.
Not actually relevant, but Christine is 75 this week - just seen reference on Addicts site.
That is very interesting Glad, a silent birthday for her, no doubt.
Poor Chris was cut out of the Glebe Cottage knees-up when Ruth made an excuse and left, so why should anyone recall her specially important birthday, poor love?
Is there such a thing as a silent birthday?
I thought that any and all birthdays (however insignificant) by clan members were feted with bunting across the streets.
