Of the current character list, which actor has played his character for the longest time?

That would be Norman Painting, who plays Phil Archer. He's been there since the very beginning, over 50 years.
Yes, Norman Painting is the actor who has been in TA since the beginning of TA in 1951.
I can't tell you about this because I was not born until the mid-1950s'.
But if you at the actors link on the left-hand side of your browser, you'll probably find out even more info.
June Spence must come second. Again she was in it from the very beginning but took a few years out (1953 to 1962) when Thelma Rogers took over the role of Peggy.

Lesley Saweard joined in 1953 playing Christine. This longevity however, might not be relevant any more, because Christine seems to have disappeared from Ambridge. She is never mentioned even in passing. And I noticed in the recent Arena programme that she was hardly referred to as a descendant of Dan and Doris. She was in the family tree but no further mention was made of her, unlike Phil and Jack. Has she been entirely air brushed out of the Archer family?
Christine has been mentioned during the last 2 weeks (she was sitting with Jack while Peggy went out to do something).
I must have missed that, thanks Mike. I am glad to hear that Christine has her uses, no life worth recording though.

smarttedebear, the "Family tree" was much truncated. Didn't you notice that there was no mention of marriage partners for Shula, Kenton or Elizabeth?
Yes, I noticed that. But the programme made much of Dan and Doris being the 'founders' of the Archer tribe, with Phil, Jack and Christine being their direct descendants. Christine was not mentioned, other than the fact that she existed. Jack's alcoholism was described and, of course, Phil as a farmer. But Christine's life ws not mentioned. She does seem to have been sidelined, to say the least.
It was mentioned that Christine went to spend her xmas with her son, Peter, wasn't it? Presumsably to make up for the fact nobody invited her to her sister-in-law's birthday meal, her brother and other sister-in-law's wedding anniversary, did anything for her own 75th birthday, or the Stables xmas lunch, or Jack and sinlaw Peggy's 10th wedding anniversary! Poor love.

Yes, that's what I remember being said. It's a pity that Christine has so totally disappeared; they've never managed to sort out a role for her as a (not so merry) widow - perhaps Lewis might be available?
Having just glanced at TBOTA, it suggests that Joyce Gibbs played Christine at some time during Lesley Saweard's tenancy. (Naturally, it doesn't give a clue as to when this happened!).
The other actor with a continous role from the 50's is Patricia Greene as Jill (1957).

Joyce Gibbs played Christine between 1962 and 1968 while Lesley Saweard had children.
By my reckoning Patricia Greene has slightly longer service (~50 yrs) than Lesley Saweard (~48yrs) who has marginally more than June Spencer (~46yrs).
Ahm a six-year incumebcy until the previous actress returned! Given that the present Lilian first darkened our door in 2001, hopefully the real Lilian will return this year....!!

Thanks for the info, Cornelius.
Interesting that they aren't that far ahead of Alan Devereaux, who's put in ~ 43 years as Sid Perks.
