Hi Cara. We were never told although we asked and asked how much they were paying for it and, much more importantly, how.

Keri told us that GG was originally marketed for (iirc) £8-9m - but that included the golf course which was bought separately by Matt and his cronies.

Olly sold his investments for what I always liked to think of as being around £4m plus Caz stuck in the proceeds of the Dower House - say about £1.5m so I look upon the cost to them as being around £6m give or take.

Than you jimbo, that sounds 'about right' to be fair to the host Keri (Davies ?). I suppose they don't like to say proces on the programme, that's what I love about the Archers though you can ask personal questions like this without being accused of it being none of your business.
Though funnily enough it still feels like one's being intrusive! Into others financial affairs.
Souns like a dear golf course, as I don't think of it as one of the big ones, like St Andrew's or all the other Scottish ones or Prince's or St George's Sandwich here in Kent. More like the Sevenoaks Golf Course or perhaps not even that. Did Caroline have to borrow a few thousand? And no doubt Jack and Peggy gave it to her at a song.

Caroline sold her half of The Bull to Lilian, for a tidy sum: her Dower house as well, for a million, afaik. I thought Oliver just sold a few shares?

The golf course is 18 holes, and includes a club house - and Borchester Land also bought the country park, for shooting rights etc. I thought (not certain, though) that we were given a rough figure of four million for Hotel (inc. leisure centre (swimming pool, health club atc.), conference facilities, and 15 acres of garden)?

Rosie T you listened well. Didn't the country park come with a steam railway attraction as well, though I don't remember hearing about if for years - maybe they got rid of it off stage some while back??
Can you still go for a walk in the country park now it's Borchetser land, or hs that been stopped? Or haven't they said. Or is it only shooting?
Has Caroline maintained the princess Maragret inspired Royal Garden Suite pretension now that Jack Wooley's no longer the proprietor? I mean, it's always featured as a kind of bad fairy in the programme, with Hazel insisting year before last on ousting poor Lord (I can' remember his name) who always has it every September for the partridge shoot. I wonder if he got it back again this last September? And didn't Caro herself live there as her home? Wasn't it Peggy and Jack's first home, while they waited for the GG Lodge 'cottage' to be done up, where I remeber Nora and George lived and she lost the aby while decorating the nursery and they played the drastic music while Tom was telling Jack she'd had a miscarriage, 'It won't have hit him yet, sir. But it's poor Nora I feel sorry for. Losing the baby. God help her.' Da da da da dadadada daaa, Da da da da dadadada daaa, (then the same again a bit higher notes,)Da da da da dadadada daaa, Da da da da dadadada daaa, then the same again higher notes still (Da da da da dadadada daaa, Da da da da dadadada daaa) and then (rising and falling notes leading back into the familiar dum-tee-dum-tee-dum-tee-dum) Dee dee dee dee dee dee dee dee dee dee deedeedee deeeeeeee, dum-tee-tum-tee-dum-tee-dum, but still sounding a bit more grave than the normal dum-tee-dum, till the closing bars of the tune.

I wa sjust showing other boarders wht the tragic music was like, vicarshusband, I don't suppose anybody remembers it, it has not been played for more than 15 years. I even remember the last time it was! It's the same tune, by the way, but it is the bit after they fadeit out now, well a bit beyond that, right at the end, or towards the end and it used to add excitement and a certain frisson to the ending and made you sit up straight if, say, you were doing the ironing or soemthing ordinary and this out of the ordinary music could be heard from the wireless. I can't rmember when they first played it though. Was it there in the fifties (sixties maybe), definitely early seventies onward.

Hi Rosie, I think £4m is too low - Keri deffo told us GG was on the market for £8m or so as I had earlier speculated on £4-5m.

Here's a link I've found to a thread discussing finances, though I can't find the original - probably in DTA and there are too many to shuffle through.

I can't see that the golf course could have been worth half £8m which is why I came to the conclusion that the hotel must have been rather more than £5m. Ollie's "few" shares are proby diferent few from what we would think about.
