A facility to check what replies there have been to a particular post - any chance? Or can I do it already and have missed it?

If you already run Firefox (or Opera) or are willing to install it (along with a couple of other things) there is a feature very very close to what you are asking for in a script that I and another member (Achilles) have written.

    See: for information.

Panic not.. I have a knack of making it look more complicated than it really is. Also be aware that there is no problem running Firefox alongside any other browser you may have.. and furthermore.. it is easy to cleanly uninstall if you don't like it (at least, I think it is).

A fair few other board members use this script and seem to be quite happy with it. You will notice many of these by the timestamp etc in their posts like this one has (though that feature, along with all the other features, is optional).

    Hi gg,

Unfortunately the feature you ask for was removed when the boards transferred from one system (howerd2) to the current one (DNA). It's not likely to be reinstated, as the boards are now so vast it would cause problems (so I am led to understand).

However, you've already had the best possible answer you could wish for, from Jont. I have to say he is being unnecessarily modest; the script he refers to is an utterly invaluable tool and makes using the boards, and keeping track of the discussions you are contributing to or interested in, a far simpler task than it would otherwise be. I heartily recommend downloading Firefox or Opera (both of which are free and, in my opinion and that of many others, far superior to Microsoft's Internet Explorer) and installing this script, which, as Jont says, is an extremely simple job even though the notes on the page he referred you to are extensive.

Hope this helps and may the power of Jont and Achilles enhance your ML experience!

    See you around
    'Ö'

Just to reiterate what a good thing the scripts are. I have just unsubscribed from a number of threads, and couldn't get the unsubscribe feature to work. Then I read the Help notes (never read the instructions, obviously), and realised that it takes a little time, Result!

    Thanks Jont and Achilles.

    Delboy,

If you go to Tools -> Options and then find the privacy tab, look under the advanced Javascript options and make sure that you have allowed the status bar text to be changed. That way Jont and Achilles' script will keep you up to date via the status bar with messages about its progress.

I had to do that (with Jont's help) the first time I used the unsubscribe feature as I thought exactly the same as you - that it wasn't doing anything.

Crikey - thank you so much for all the worthwhile answers! I've been away a couple of days, but I'll have a good go at these over the weekend. I'll report back.

    Thanks for that, L-F.

Hmmm... it would rather suggest that this ought to be mentioned in the instructions somewhere - not that anyone reads 'em mind! smiley - smiley

Maybe I'll find the energy/time when I do the next release.

btw: on my Firefox 2.0.0.1 the Javascript Advanced options come under the [Content] section of the options, rather than [Privacy]

And for Opera (9.01) users, it's [Tools]->Preferences... [Advanced] tab, Content section, [Javascript Options...], "[x] Allow changing of status field"

    Keep well.
