I'm guessing that you don't do a lot of pub quizzes. There's a ha-ha question in every second one I've been to - or maybe it just feels like it.

Actually, they are known in urban settings. The Washington Momument (in the US) is guarded by a series of ha-has.
a 'quisling' brit (real name wiliam joyce) who radio broadcast propaganda for the nazi regime during the war. he was later executed for his trouble I believe
I, too, would like to know what a haw-haw is. The only explanation so far is that it's a ditch! If so, why did Elizabeth think it was so beautiful and why did Nigel mention something about the foundations of a wall?
It's like a moat, only with no water, just grass - a bit like the elephant house outside enclosure at the London zoo, a barrier the animals cnnot climb down and out of, so seperating them from the visitors/vines etc at Lower Loxley.

Actually there's one at at Sudley House in Aigburth, or was last time I was there. Ok, so Aigburth is not city centre but it's only a couple of miles out. And I think there may be one in Prince's Park, which is only a hop skip and jump from Toxteth.

That's such a clear illustration, Peet!
Economical use of symbols.
Thanks.
I was told they're called Ha-Has because when people tumble into them, the party watching on the lawn falls about laughing "ha ha!"
