I was just thinking about the way that relatives disappear in TV and radio soaps - they get a better job offer and never come back and often are never referred to again.
Lucy, the daughter of Sid and his first wife whose name I don't know because it was before my time as an Archers listener, has gone off to live in Australia. I vaguely remember Sid going there to visit her once but she's never been back, has she?
So have she and Jamie ever met? And if not, are they ever going to? Sid never mentions Lucy these days.
Sid's first wife was called Polly' or 'Pol doll' IIRC
I think Lucy lives in New Zealand and Sid and Kathy went out for her wedding. Iirc Jamie was conceived, by accident, when they returned because Kathy made a muck up of her contraception because of the time differences.
I think that was the last time Sid saw Lucy so she and Jamie can't have ever met.
Poll Doll was also known, by Sid, as Moi Polloi
Kathy and Sid went to lucy's wedding in New Zealand, I think (got it wrong last time). She married a Duncan Gemmell. Jamie was conceived on a beach on the way home (Tahiti? ).
Jolene and Sid went out to see the Gemmele when Matthew was born, or for the christening, I seem to remember(Fallon and Peggy in the pub, getting ridiculously matey). But since Lucy treats her stepmothers with equal disdain, I imagine she' not too keen on meeting either of their offspring, so Fallon and Jamie have not been invited to be sneered at in her (doubtless lovely and eco-friendly) home.
I can understand her not being particularly interested in Fallon, but she's actually related to Jamie.
It's Lucy who has a problem with herself not coming first in every relationship, I think.
She was a bit like Nikki on Big Brother - if Sid wasn't paying her all the attention, she'd howl, stamp and make snidey comments. She was horrible to Kathy, and I cannot imgine she'd want anything to do with her offspring.
Surely if she's lived on the otehr side of the globe for however many years it is she might have got over that?
Also I think possessiveness by the children of widowed parents is a kind of natural thing, so I'm inclined to be a bit tolerant. If she's got her own family and never bothers to come and see the father she was once so possessive about, I think she's probably over it.
I still think it's a bit weird the way she's been allowed to fade out completely though. Most 'disappeareds' get the occasional mention (e.g. Christine's Peter).
I agree it's not credible that Lucy has never visited the UK - well, not on air anyway. I actually think there would be good storyline mileage in her visiting Ambridge and making waves, she was very good at that.
Wasn't Lucy Gemmell played by Tracy-Jane White, who was the real life daughter of Alan Devereux, the awful Sod Perks?
Rather like William Grundy played by Philip Molloy, who just happens to be the son of Terry Molloy, aka Mike Tucker.
And Damien is played by none other than Dominic Davies, the son of our very own Mr Keri.
I rest my case, m'lud.
I think Jolene's muted reporting of Lucy's behaviour when they visited, showed she has NOT "got over it."
And what case would that be Colonel Danby?
Pedantic point, Colonel D,but I think you mean Daniel, not Damien.
> She was horrible to Kathy,
Not at first. Kathy was her favourite teacher and was actually her, who brought Sid an Kathy together and encouraged the relationship all the way.
Axel
Yes, Miss Holland was the bees knees when she was concentrating on Lucy's problems, and helping Lucy's dad with Lucy. It was when she turned into a stepmother she became the emnemy.
gulp, just become a wicked stepmother myself
wombatsnose, I know of what I speak...
Any fule knows that Damian is the spawn of Satan, or haven't you seen 'The Omen'?

Oh no!
You've reminded me about the Milk Tanker Incident. Shudder. I still go cold every time I see one.
Not quite my recollection, Rosie. iirc Lucy was still very keen on Lucy when she first became close to Sid. However, it was when Kathy then went over to Dave Barry that whe declared "I hate her". This was not over-ridden when Kathy and Sid resumed their relationship (following a visit to a fairground) and married. However, several years into the marriage Lucy finally began to warm to her again, but this was dashed yet again when the affair with Dave Barry came to light...
Rosie, surely you'll be a 'wicked' stepmother! (Insert grinny smiley here)
You've summarised Lucy's and Kathy's relationship as I remember it, although I only started listening properly after Sid and Kathy were married.
Sid spoke to Matthew, Lucy's son, just after his birthday (Feb 14th) this year. I don't remember him mentioning Lucy, though.

how did rosie become stepmother?
I think IRL Lucy would have visited too. She *was* very close to her dad. Even if she dislikes her stepmothers, surely she'd want to see him.
Children in TA either live in their parents' house or within shouting distance, or are banished to far flung corners of the globe either forever, or until the SWs decide to bring them home. Nobody ever moves to Birmingham!
Alma.
By marrying Mike last week!!!
