I'm puzzled. According to the 2007 edition of Who's Who in TA the labour at Brookfield comprises David, Ruth, Sam, Phil, Bert and Jill. Since the book was published Sam has of course departed and Bert has retired. As far as I know neither has been replaced. It is evident also that Phil's involvement is minimal and Jill's role is confined to looking after the hens and bees.
So, given the above circumstances, how is it that David and Ruth are able not only to do all the work themselves but are now finding time to take on extra projects such as replanting hedges? Are there other staff at Brookfield who we don't know about? I cannot see how, given that Sam (especially) and Bert both always seemed to have more than enough work to do, the farm could be run effectively and efficiently by a reduced labour force consisting of just husband and wife.
You seem to have forgotten!
Eddie does the afternoon milking 3 times a week, and Emma cleans for 2 mornings.
Scruff does the mucking out, while Biff goes up Lakey Hill, shepherding. The silage is done by Demeter, helped by Tibby, Tier, Bill and Ben.
Harry the hamster fills in the gaps.
Yes Rosie, and I'd also overlooked Pip, Josh and Ben who must make a major contribution (when they're not dumped on the grandparents).
Bert still works there on a casual basis.
When it suits.
And above all if it involves taking the tractor out for a spin.
The man is an OAP. Edday is a sciver.
Nah, this simply won't wash, Massa K, unless they've got a veritable army of agri fairies, and the Dopey Duo are working flat out 27/7.
Which they aren't of course.
Not only do they have time to go for leisurely Mothering Sunday walks, to safari parks and to lay hedges, Dave can keep up with his cricket.
What'll happen when harvest comes around I ask myself. Seem to remember Dopey didn't have time for birthday parties or making treehouses last year ...

Ah, but remember he always had time for Sophie. Leisurely lunches, sensory garden projects, blah blah. It wasn't time he lacked, was it, it was desire to spend time with his wife and children.
