Can you look at your spreadsheet, and find out when Debbi Gerrard decided to go back to her birth family name, please?
Keri says this happened on air, but I can find no reference to it, and think it odd that she didn't either go back to Macy, or to Aldridge.
What is she calling herslf now Rosie? (too lazy to look it up).
I though to call up Cornelius you had to type the word: statistics
Travers-Macy, it seems was her chosen name, after she was divorced: cannot imagine why, she'd not used it since she was about 6, having been Macy the majority of her life, and cutting out Roger when she became Aldridge.
I can't understand why Eddie and Susan didn't mention it...
It does seem odd I agree.
I don't think I've yet mentioned (this week) that I really really want Adam to re-name himself 'Archer'.
I don't think Debbie's latest surname change was reported on air - purely on the grounds that it would have provoked endless discussion on the MB and I'm sure this didn't happen.
As for Gerrard->Travers-Macy it represents a return to her original surname (i.e. who she really is?) and is more of a reaction to Brian's indiscretions than simply going back to Macy (expresssing as it does a preference for one father over the other).
It's not just that Travers-Macy->Aldridge wasn't reported on air, nor were any reasons for why Debbie chose to return to Ambridge - presumably time healed all but we were never told.
Rosie, I'm afraid I'm neither Cornelius nor think what I can offer will be of very great help to you, but I've had a search through my e-mailed copies of VV (oh yes, this is where using the search facility can be of great help).
I've found the following:
"THE ARCHERS AMBRIDGE VOICE ISSUE 11 WINTER 2003"
HEADING: Why Debbie is in Tamsin's good books
SUBHEAD: Tamsin Greig plays Debbie Travers-Macy
The Aldridges may be Ambridge's most dysfunctional family but what's 'normal' anyway?
If you were growing up with Tamsin Greig
who plays eldest daughter Debbie Travers-Macy (formerly Gerrard formerly Aldridge)
you'd be forced to perform plays for your parents.
As a child Tamsin loved creating a theatre in the sitting room at home
and devising shows that she bullied her sisters to act in.
Tamsin was the precocious middle daughter who confesses 'I'd work out dance routines and make them act as boys or animals. I, of course, always took the lead part.' She even insisted that the 'stage' was candle-lit. 'A bit dangerous actually - especially as Dad kept falling asleep!'
I offer this for what it's worth.
Best wishes,
Keith

Keri believes it was.

But was this strange decision, to resurrect an unused name, made on air, please?

It was, although I haven't got chapter and verse to hand.
Thank you, Keith!
I just think Debbie was very, very anti-men-who-had-affairs at that time. Her husband had had an affair with the wife of the colleague - so she didn't want his name. Her stepfather had had an affair with the wife of a married man, resulting in a baby, - so she didn't want his name. So why, if she wanted another family name, did she want the family name of her biological father, who had had an affair with another married woman? I truly think this would have been argued out on air - but I cannot find it!
bump for Cornelius.

<[live in Hope]>
have you and mike moved then?
could have been an instruction!
Or a suggestion to Shula.

Rosie - she might not have wanted a name from yet another cheater but wasn't she fast running out of options?!
Archer? after her mother?
Perkins? after her grandmother?
I'm sure with a posh voice like that, she'd consider Perkins as beneath her - just kidding. Archer I think is a non starter simply for us poor listeners who might be supposed to be confused if the Home Farm lot and the Brookfield lot became intermingled as regards nomenclature. OK - really have no idea. Where's Keri or Cornelius when you need them?
Keri's too busy.
I rather think Cornelius may be as well.
Good gracious - how thoughtless of them. I think they should really say "how high?" when I say "jump!" but I'll let it slide just this once.
I'm slightly puzzled by this, now I come to think of it. Surely, her birth name was Travers-Macy, not just Macy - wasn't Roger's surname Travers-Macy.
Was she ever Debbie Aldridge? - and how come Adam Macy only kept part of his adoptive father's name? He must have been Adam Travers-Macy for a time when he was first adopted as a small boy.
Debbie, born Deborah Travers-Macy.
Adam Archer adopted by Roger, becomes Adam Travers-Macy.
Adam and Debbie move to Home Farm (via Wynfords) when Jen marries Brian. Brian wishes to adopt them, but Roger says no.
Adam and Debbie therefore drop the Trvers- and become known as Macy.
Following Jennifer's brief affair with Roger, and Debbie finding it out and telling Brian, she says she regards Brian as her dad, and wants to be known as Aldridge. Adam remains Adam macy.
Debbie marries and becomes Debbie Gerrard.
Debbie divorces,
and there is where I have the suspension of belief that she'd take Roger's name again. But she's down as 'Travers-Macy' in the "Who's Who" for a couple of years, was Travers-Macy in the Radio Times, and is now Aldridge on the website.

Gosh, I had forgotten that.
yes, indeedy.
I'm glad it's not just me. I was /so/ convinced Brahn had adopted Debs, but maybe it was Roger adopting Adam that fooled me.
Al...
or Ada Marcher maybe?

I must confess to not seeing the estimable Cornelius in these parts for some time.
Bumper for a Saturday hope.
